Ways to Organize Your Basement and Attic

When organizing, there are two places in your home that you would rather not deal with: the basement and the attic. You usually hear horrid stories about them and insects and rodents normally set up home there. You must have determination and the willpower to organize these areas. Nevertheless, you can do it as long as you set your mind to do the job.
The following are tips in getting your basement and attic organized.
1. Be prepared to travel back in time if you have not organized these areas for quite some time. You may find you often stop to reminisce as you find items such as old photographs, ice skates, games, grandmas' silver and other items. Put them away these in a corner until you have decided what you are going to do with them.
2. Throw away old and broken things that are no longer used. Purchase shelves, storage items and establish hooks and shelving to organize items. Label plastic bins. You may opt to buy different colors and color-coordinate items by designating a particular color for toys, clothing and other items.
3. To utilize the space, hang pegboards or hooks. Turn an old bar stool upside down to store long items such as curtain rods and baseball bats. Have several opaque and plastic containers to store Christmas decors and out-of-season clothing and costumes.
4. Make your attic and basement organizing a family time. You can ask the family to chip and make it into a game by assigning tasks with a time limit. Give small prizes for jobs accomplished in less time. Play fast music to get everyone in an enthusiastic mood you can celebrate later on with a pizza.
5. Refrain keeping things that you come across. If you do are unsure of what it is and what is its use, throw it in the trash to minimize the mess.
