Sheds are very useful. They can be used to store equipment and other materials found on the exterior of your home. There are various types of sheds when it comes to size, construction and other factors. A smaller shed is cheaper and simpler while a bigger shed is more expensive and have features the same as those in home constructions. Adding a shed in your property does not mean a major construction job that needs a contractor. You can build it yourself with the help of a shed kit that comes with siding and roofing materials. It should be simple as long as you follow the instructions carefully.
When building a shed, the materials you need includes lawn flags, shed kit, spade, measuring tape, 2x4s, hammer, plate compactor, gravel, nails, water hose, concrete mix, trowel, wheelbarrow, rocks, screed, concrete drill bit, plastic sheet, hammer drill and siding nails. As you start building, find a suitable place in your property that is level and has easy access to the driveway or road.

Purchase a shed kit that gives you a choice of materials to use. The kit should have pre-cut parts and complete building plans to make the work simpler and easier. Measure the space of the ground using a tape measure, mark out the base and add two inches to the actual size of the shed by placing lawn flags. Remove all debris from the flagged area and dig a 4-inch deep hole foundation with the use of a space and the flags as guide. Check the dimensions of the hole and make sure it matches the length and width of your marked base and make changes if necessary. Use a plat compactor to compress soil in the hole foundation.
Next, line the foundation of the hole with 2x4s as a concrete form that is two inches thick four inches high, cut the board to fit with a circular saw and nail the edges of the board together in the hole. Make adjustments to the boards to level the tops before continuing. Pour a 2-inch gravel layer to the hole and compact it to serve as drainage. Use a water hose to spray and wet the gravel a bit to prevent leeching the moisture from the concrete. Use a wheelbarrow to mix concrete, pour into the hole and make sure it does not overflow.

Use wooden screed board across the tops of the wooden frame to level the foundation, loosely cover with plastic sheeting and secure by using rocks. Wait for a week for the slab to cure, remove the sheet and wait for another week before starting to build the body of the shed. Build frames by installing the main wall supports to the concrete slab with the use of brackets; secure the supports with lug bolts. Use a hammer drill to make pilot holes for the lug nuts. Add the remainder of the frame to the support, working one wall at a time. Mount the roof trusses until the framework is done. Closely follow the instructions when positioning the joints of the frame pieces and secure with bolts provided in the kit. Mount the siding to the sides of the shed with the use of nails and add the roofing material. Add doors and windows from the kit to complete the shed using window frames and doorjambs from the kit.
